A work-in-progress screening is most useful when viewers understand what kind of response the filmmaker needs. Broad questions often produce broad opinions; specific questions reveal where the film is communicating clearly.

Listen for patterns

No single note has to determine a revision. Repeated moments of confusion, distance, or unexpected emotion are more useful signals. The filmmaker’s task is to diagnose the underlying issue, not simply execute every suggestion.
